Collectables Price Guide 2003 by Judith Miller (Dorling Kindersley, £17.99).

With the success of TV shows such as Bargain Hunt and Flog It! and the birth of internet auction sites it was inevitable that a guide would be necessary and of interest for collectors of all manner of weird and wonderful things.

Judith Miller, is co-founder of the well-known Miller Guides. She has written many books on antiques and collectables, and this is her latest contribution.

Each subject is illustrated, with a superb contents and reference index to help you find your way around nearly 600 pages of information. Literally everything is listed, from advertising memorabilia to wine collectables (not just bottles either).

Some items are really obscure, but then if there is a niche market someone must be selling and you'll need to know how much to pay.

If glass is your bag, keep an eye out for some of the heavy pieces produced in the 60s and 70s. Clothes, shoes and even men's ties are all collectable items.

Look out for Dinky Toys and Star Wars figures at the back of the toy cupboard. Then, of course, you could always be brave and sell your old Grateful Dead LP's or the Elvis LP that you begged for when you were 14.

Who could have guessed that these items would be worth anything at all? Their sale may provide a little cash for you to start off your new "must have" collection.
