ONE cat died and another lost an eye when they were shot with an air rifle.

The incident happened in Walney Lane, Hereford between 4pm and 4.30pm on Thursday.

One of the pets was shot in the head and later died from its injuries. The other survived after having an operation to remove the damaged eye.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the shooting, or anyone who saw people acting suspiciously in the area.

They are trying to trace two youths who were seen running away from the area at the time.

One is described as wearing a blue and red long-sleeved shirt.
