COOKHILLS' first post- war council houses are expected to be started this year, Mr CH Gardiner, clerk to Evesham Rural District Council, stated in a letter read at last week's meeting of the Cookhill Women's Institute.
The letter, read by the secretary, Mrs F Parker, stated that the Ministry for Houses and Local Government had approved the final layout of the first 10 council houses to be built on the site at Cladswell.
The quantity surveyor was preparing the necessary documents so that tenders could be invited and with the prospect of a start being made on the water scheme he was 'more than hopeful that they might see bricks being laid this year'.
