REDDITCH favourite Jamie Salter brought the curtain down on a medal-laden swimming career by storming home to defend his British 200m title.
The Commonwealth medallist touched home a mammoth two seconds ahead of his rivals to deafening applause after announcing Sheffield would be his last competitive race.
The former Redditch Swimming Club star, who has travelled the world competing in Olympics, Commonwealth Games and World Championships, told the Advertiser he wanted to finish on a high.
The Matchborough ace spent his formative years with Redditch SC after joining them when he was eight years old.
A hatful of medals, including national junior titles followed before he joined City of Birmingham when he was 16 in 1992 to link up with idols like Nick Gillingham.
