WESTFIELDS recorded their ninth West Midlands League Premier Division double of the season with a 1-0 home win over local rivals Ledbury Town at Rotherwas last night.
The victory saw Westfields extend their lead to six points in this action- packed local derby.
Westfields could have won by a bigger margin but Ledbury's teenage goalkeeper Adam Ding produced a superb performance to deny Westfields a more emphatic scoreline.
Westfields opened up well and Ding produced a flying save from Mark Hibbard. When the ball broke free to Wayne Hoskins he saw his shot cleared off the Ledbury goal-line.
Paul Burton then got on the end of a Scott Jackson clearance but he saw his chip shot go wide of the upright.
Westfields eventually broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Paul Burton was brought down in the penalty box and James Watkins gave Ding no chance from the spot to give Westfields a 1-0 interval lead.
After the break Ledbury came more into the game and Jon Pugh produced a fantastic save to claw a Stuart Hall shot out of the top corner of the goal.
Ding then saved in the Ledbury goal to prevent Mark Hibbard increasing the Westfield lead.
Westfield enjoyed a good period of play and Mark Hibbard shot over when well placed and then Ding cut out two awkward corners to take the pressure off the visitors.
Ledbury's normally free scoring attack led by Robbie Colwell were kept in check by defenders Jon Hill, Alec Winstone and Matt Phillips who played superbly to keep a blank sheet as Westfields maintained their challenge for the title.
