MEMBERS of Droitwich Rural District Council, at a meeting, declined to support a plea from councillors in Yeovil who wanted to see a ten mph speed restriction put on all motor vehicles. Cllr Philips remarked it was "ridiculously slow" and barely the speed of a "good donkey." They did however support some form of identifying markings on vehicles to enable them to be traced if need be.
ELIZABETH Rogers, from Fox Alley, Droitwich, got off lightly when she appeared before Spa magistrates charged with stealing 3d (1p) worth of coal from the Salt Works in Friar Street. As it was her first offence she was made to pay just the costs, 5/- (25p).
RUBERY resident Thomas Wardle was upset when magistrates in Bromsgrove fined him 10/- (50p) with 9/6 (47.5p) costs for setting rabbit snares on his own land at Lickey in contravention of the 1880 act. The law said wires had to be put near holes, anywhere else posed a danger to domestic pets which could get caught in them.
FEMALES who attended evening classes in Stoke Works were singled out for special praise in a recently published inspector's report. They excelled at needlework, cutting out, and singing it said, while the men concentrated on the three Rs and drawing.
BROMSGROVE Rovers' makeshift team bowed out of the Worcestershire Senior Cup when they lost 1-0 away to Kings Norton Metal Works. The Rovers ten-man team comprised mainly of reserves plus a spectator at the ground they persuaded to turn out for them.
