A good attendance was recorded at the March 4 meeting of Lickey WI including some new members. Irene Scott was thanked for arranging the theatre visit in February which a large group had enjoyed. Final arrangements were announced for the April outing to Somerset. Another match had been played in the inter-WI skittles tournament and two more were scheduled during March. Members were reminded that Lickey is hosting the Hillside Group Meeting at the parish hall on Tuesday, April 8, when the speaker will be Maggie Cotton on Orchestral Notes.
A fascinating talk From the Other Side of the Wire was given by former prisoner of war Wolff Wahle who was a German paratrooper held captive in England from April 1945 - December 1948. He had learnt English while a prisoner and settled in Worcestershire after his release. His talk was peppered with amusing anecdotes and observations and his determination to make the best of his situation had ensured his survival. Wolff was thanked by Brenda Cullimore.
The competition for a wartime memento was won by Jean Clift. Raffle winners for the evening were Gwen West and Jean Powell.
The next meeting will be held next Tuesday when Keith Newnham will speak about Well Known Gardens. The competition will be for A Bloom from your Garden.
