MEMBERS of the newly formed Lickey End Hospital Tenants' Association were shocked to discover an area of ground designated as a play area for staff children since 1957 was about to be developed. Following negotiations with the Health Authority, the Red Cross was planning to build new headquarters and car parking on the land set aside for hospital staff children. The other space would be lost when the M42 was built.

BROMSGROVE Festival Ltd, the company which had made a marked contribution to the town during the previous 18 years by organising the major musical event, was now in danger of liquidation. A stark picture was painted by Robert Oulsnam, chairman of Bromsgrove Council's finance committee and land sub-committee. He told policy and resources committee members that the sub-committee had recommended an additional grant of £750 to help the organisers break even. His committee's recommendation won through despite two attempts to reduce the amount to £500 or adhere to a previous single grant of £750.

'LOOK out Bromsgrove here we come' was the defiant message spelled out by punk rock impresario Bob Green in reply to sceptics who dismissed a proposed punk festival as a hoax. Organisers claimed about ten thousand tickets had been issued for the event, which was to be held at a mystery site of the August Bank Holiday.
