SATURDAY morning tennis coaching for juniors is to continue despite the on-going row between the tennis club and town council.
Disgusted at the stubborn attitude of some councillors over costs of hiring the Burgage courts, coach Eilie Robinson will now use her own facility at Sutton Court, in Bromyard Road.
After a meeting with the Mayor, Cllr Keith Griffiths, she was confident a reasonable arrangement for the children could be worked out, but councillors turned her down.
Angry at the decision, she said: " If this is how they treat the young people of Tenbury, I really do question the democracy of this council. I offered £200 for Saturday morning use of two courts during the season, and suggested the children could have free use of empty courts in the evenings. What future has Tenbury if there are no young people? I have yet to receive a clear explanation for rejecting my offer, the Town Clerk must not talk to me or any one from the tennis club. It is a ridiculous situation."
Tennis club players have called for a boycott of the Burgage courts in favour of Mrs Robinson's' offer to play at Sutton Court for a £1 donation for a two-and-a-half hour session. The money will be used to resurface the court.
She added, "How the council can sustain this major loss of income is a serious financial concern. It has been on-going for almost a year and quite honestly it's time a higher authority was brought in to investigate."
Junior coaching sessions at Sutton Court start on April 5 and more details are available from Eilie Robinson on 01584 810519.
