GARDENING CLUB: The March meeting held in the Women's Institute Hall was well attended with members keen to learn about Herbaceous Borders. They were not disappointed as the speaker, Mr Hardy from Pershore, gave an informative talk on the subject from their beginnings at the end of the 19th century to present day borders. The chairman thanked the speaker for an enjoyable evening after which members were able to buy plants provided by the speaker.
The next meeting on April 14 will be the spring show.
INTEREST AMD LEISURE CLUB: It was a glorious spring day with warm sunshine for the club's visit to Bicester Village where a leisurely morning was spent shopping, taking coffee and sitting in the sun.
Due to a fault on the coach the planned afternoon mystery tour had to be cancelled and it was decided instead to lunch in Banbury and see some of the attractions there.
Some members sat by the canal at Castle Quay watching the colourful narrow boats go by. There is also an interesting museum nearby. Others spent some time at a garden centre.
All in all it was a very pleasant enjoyable day. Cliff Bradly, club secretary, thanked Angela and Alan Noyce for all they had done to make it possible.
MODERN HISTORY: Moreton and District Local History Society is looking forward as well as back. It has gone on line with its own website moretonhistory.co.uk and after the success of producing its own computerised calendar last Christmas it is to bring out another this year. The society also answers questions from people all over the globe on local history and brings out a quarterly bulletin which is soon to be put on the website.
The society will also be having a modern topic for its next meeting at the WI Hall on Wednesday, April 9, when Michael Kernan will be discussing one of the town's new institutions, the Fire Service Technical College.
YFC: Moreton Young Farmers are a flourishing club with lots to do. Most of the members are not from farming backgrounds with a range of age groups. At the beginning of March they finished second in the county hockey and third in ten-pin bowling and ladies' football.
Many members have just returned from the South West area competitions weekend in Newquay, where Abby Gardner, Frankie Hope and Becky Hughes represented Gloucestershire FYFC in the junior public speaking. Abbey Gardner competed in the junior member of the year competition and Rob Harrison was third in senior member of the year. He was also part of the Gloucestershire after-dinner speaking team that came first. Other Moreton competitors include Nick Williams, Katie Joynes and Steve Adams who finished fourth in Call my Bluff.
Future events include the county rally and pre-show day at the end of April. On March 29 a 70s dance is being held at Stow Rugby Club, all are welcome.
Moreton YFC meets on Tuesday at the Black Bear in Moreton. If you are aged 15 to 26 contact Steve Adams on 07813788438 or Bryony Potter on 01386 840918.
