MIDFIELD hardman Danny Williams was as puzzled as many others at Kidderminster Harriers' defensive jitters in the Rushden defeat.
The fact Williams scored only his second goal for the club was mere consolation though he is determined to bag more this season.
But the 23-year-old Welshman also felt the key decisions of Merseyside referee Chris Foy did his team no favours.
Williams pointed to the penalty awarded against him and to Drewe Broughton's dismissal for two yellow cards.
But first he admitted Harriers had to improve in both penalty areas, especially defensively.
Williams said: "The long ball was beating us all the time. To be fair to Abdou Sall and Craig Hinton they had a good game against Bournemouth.
"But that means nothing in your next game and they weren't heading the balls or communicating enough.
"Lowe is good in the air and Darby plays off him but we have defended well against players like that before.
"Our centre-backs are good enough, they are two of the best in the division. But it's about getting it right and that was only our third game of the season.
"A solid back five wins you games but we didn't have that."
Williams felt Harriers improved in the second half and they could have wrestled something from the match.
He admitted: "It's hard coming to Rushden and they seemed to often just play that long ball. They certainly weren't outplaying us.
"But at the end of the day we have missed our chances and they have scored them. It all counts in the two boxes.
"I'm trying to get forward a lot more this year and get on the end of things.
"At times we passed it quite well, especially in the second half, but we cannot keep on giving away goals."
Broughton was red carded after catching defender Barry Hunter in the face, according to the referee.
But Williams declared: "How big is their defender? Look at the size of him and he goes down like that. He had no marks on his face, unlike Craig Hinton.
"With their penalty, the player took three steps before he fell over."
