A BUNGLING burglar returned stolen goods to his victim - and left his fingerprints on the bag containing them.

Alan Dyke had a change of heart after raiding a friend's house in Malham Close, Stourport.

Three days later he left a carrier bag by his door with two Playstations inside, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Two months earlier he broke into another friend's home in Windmill Close, Stourport, and stole £234, credit cards and pewter ornaments, said Samantha Crabb, prosecuting.

He sold six of the ornaments for £20 to fund a heroin habit.

Dyke, 26, of Old Ford Walk, Stourport, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary.

Jailing him for two years, Recorder Graham Cliff said they were mean offences.

He added that it had taken fingerprint evidence to persuade the defendant to plead guilty.

Four years ago Dyke was given a probation order for another break-in.

Miss Crabb said besides the Playstations he also took cash, a drill, a mobile phone and a radio.

With the Playstations he returned was a note of apology.

Delroy Henry, defending, said the returned goods showed clear remorse at the crime.

He added: "This was a man clearly out of control because of the evils of drugs."

He asked for a drug treatment and testing order to be passed.

But the recorder pointed out that those resources were rare and expensive.
