IT was with some incredulity and considerable sadness that I read Nigel Gilbert's letter in last week's Shuttle/Times & News.

Incredulity that someone in his exalted position could write such a letter, and sadness in that the insignificant minority, which he claims to represent, has had its way in the Piano Building v cinema argument.

Nowhere in his letter did Mr Gilbert make any effort to define or explain his argument for keeping the Piano Building but used these columns as a vehicle for firing repeated broadsides at Councillor Mike Oborski.

May I remind Mr Gilbert that Councillor Oborski is an elected official and a public representative and is, therefore, answerable to the electorate as a whole.

I would also like to point out to Mr Gilbert that a good elected representative lets his actions and public utterances sway in the wind of public opinion - which is exactly what Mr Oborski did on the matter of the cinema.

I rarely go to the cinema and I have never been a supporter of Mr Oborski, either in terms of political leanings or personal panache.

On the other hand, he is my representative in local government and I look to him to represent and act in accordance with my views.

Mr Gilbert is neither elected nor a representative of anything other than a vociferous minority which has let down the people of Wyre Forest in a very undemocratic manner.
