On Tuesday evening Mr W J Sheldon, of Avonside, Birlingham, with characteristic kindness, gave a magic lantern exhibition to the inmates of the Pershore Union. The Rev J H Feek presided, and there were other guardians present. The views were a miscellaneous selection, mostly of an amusing nature, and proved highly entertaining to those who saw them.

One of the worst storms ever experienced raged over Honeybourne on Friday afternoon. Mrs G Pritchard, of Mill Bank, Evesham, was walking along Gloucester Hedge-road, when the wind caught her umbrella, which she had up, and carried her into the ditch under the hedge. She managed to get out and went to the Council cottages close by and Mr C W Shorey took her to the Evesham Hospital where it was found that her shoulder was dislocated and she was badly bruised.

About 250 people attended the ball organised by the Evesham and District Licensed Victuallers' Association at the Lygon Arms Hotel, Broadway, on Wednesday last week. It was the most ambitious social event the Association has planned and the most successful. A magnificent running buffet was prepared by the hotel staff and all the available hotel accommodation was made available to the dancers. Spring flowers decorated the ballroom. There were five bars and an oyster bar. A special attraction during the evening was a mannequin parade presented by Peter Robinson (London and Cheltenham).

Plans to hold a mini-asparagus show at the Round of Gras, Badsey, in the spring have been abandoned by the licensee, Mr E L Mustoe. He wanted to keep it going after the Vale of Evesham Asparagus Association folded up last year because of declining interest among growers in their annual show. Mr Mustoe said: "I have asked a number of asparagus growers but have not been able to do anything about it because there is not very much co-operation. I shall have to scrap the idea. It's a great shame."
