The very large and enthusiastic Liberal meeting held at Evesham on Wednesday shows a notable revival of Liberal feeling in the constituency after a long sleep. Not before since its great defeat in 1895 has the Liberal party in the division given any outward sign of organic life. A Ford motor van containing paraffin oil and household wares caught fire while in Deacle Place, Evesham, on Monday morning, and blazing fiercely completely destroyed the vehicle and its contents. Members of the Evesham Fire Brigade arrived in Mr C Fowler's motor car at about 11.20am, but the damage had already been done, and they could only confine the fire to the smouldering wreck. It is understood that the vehicle was insured. How the outbreak originated is not known.

Hinton-on-the-Green is suffering from a severe case of planning blight and unless new houses were built there the village was in danger of dying, Mrs D E Stacey, said at Worcester yesterday. Speaking at a meeting of the county strategic planning committee, she said the village was greatly in need of an influx of new people. An application for a small housing development with a site for a village hall and -access roadway on land formerly used by the MEB as a storage depot was refused. Mrs Stacey said there was no youth club or WI and those who wanted to hold meetings had to do so in a little shed off the side of the road.
