THE FUNERAL of a well-known former Pershore landlord was to take place yesterday.
Frank Swan, who ran The Star Inn, Pershore for 30 years, died suddenly at his home in the town last Wednesday at the age of 76.
His niece Mary McCormack who now runs The Star said; "He was a very friendly man who never passed anyone in the street without saying 'hello'. Everyone knew him as Uncle Frank. He would help anyone and was a right character."
Born in Crieff, Perthshire in 1926, Mr Swan moved to Pershore 40 years ago with his wife Christine who passed away two years ago, and ran the Swan Inn until the early 1990's.
After his retirement Mr Swan continued to live in his adopted town until his death, spending most of his time indulging his twin passions of golf and gardening. He was proud to be made an honorary member of Evesham Golf Club because he loved the sport said Mrs McCormack.
Mr Swan's funeral service was due to take place at Worcester Crematorium at 2pm yesterday.
