SUNNY weather blessed a fun day for families of a Kidderminster community.
The special day out was organised by Wyre Forest Community Housing's neighbourhood wardens who patrol the Horsefair area to deter trouble and act as a visible presence at night.
And the event, held at St George's Park, off Radford Avenue, on Saturday, drew hundreds of visitors.
A marquee put up in case of bad weather instead provided shade from the sun which was unusually strong for the time of year.
The event raised more than £660 for the Childline charity with a grand raffle, tombola and games stalls. There was also a juggling stilt-walking clown and steel band.
"We are thrilled with the support we have received from the community," said Kate Foxall, neighbourhood warden supervisor.
"The event was designed to provide some fun and entertainment but our message was serious. Crime and anti-social behaviour can be reduced when people work together.
" Local tenants and residents have seen an improvement in their area - they know first-hand that neighbourhood wardens work."Horsefair and Broadwaters neighbourhood warden John Sadler with a game to test the reflexes.
The wardens work hard to reach children through community activities and school visits. In a recent creative writing competition they received over 300 entries on the theme: "If I were a warden..."
Other agencies which operate in the area, including the Community Safety Partnership, Neighbourhood Watch, the district's environmental health team, the police and fire service, ChildLine and tenant consultative committee representatives were also present.
