AN expanding advice service for disabled people in Wyre Forest has launched a campaign to attract extra volunteers.
The Kidderminster-based North Worcestershire Disablement Information Advice Line (DIAL) has two new members of staff who will oversee the new developments.
Tony Wilson, who has 30 years experience with the Benefits Agency, joins the team as benefits officer to head-up the growing service. DIAL manager Ali Taylor with welfare benefits officer Tony Wilson at Sandalwood Resource Centre in Kidderminster.
And Ali Taylor recently became the new manager having previously worked as voluntary services co-ordinator for Kemp Hospice.
"Our services are expanding to further meet the needs of the local community. To do this we need additional help from the community," said Mrs Taylor.
DIAL provides a free, impartial and confidential advice service and its freephone helpline receives more than 1,000 calls a year from people wanting information ranging from where to find accessible holidays to how to apply for a blue badge.
Mrs Taylor said the helpline was staffed by a committed group of volunteers and she is looking for an extra five people.
"No previous experience is necessary, but a willingness to learn, be flexible and use initiative is always helpful," she said.
Extra volunteers are also needed to meet the growing need for DIAL's benefits service, which is based at the Sandalwood Resource Centre, Comberton Road, and at the Oldington and Foley Park Network.
Staff can also visit people in their own homes if necessary.
The service is for anyone wanting to find out about disability-related benefits like disability living allowance, incapacity benefit, attendance allowance and housing benefit.
Training and on-going support is provided and volunteers in both services usually work one morning or afternoon per week. Expenses are also paid.

The freephone helpline number is 0800 970 7202.
