A HUGE gig by Wyre Forest band Tom The Frop raised an "incredible" £4,700 for Cancer Research UK on Saturday night.
The final figure, including song sponsorship and ticket sales, was boosted by more than £900 raised on the night, at Stourport Civic Hall, from a raffle and donations.
The event was arranged as a tribute to Pat Hayhurst, who died from the disease last year after she had encouraged the band, who churn out well known hits from the 60s to the 90s, to stage a charity gig.
It was attended by Wyre Forest MP Dr Richard Taylor and Bewdley mayor Frank Baillie, who has switched his year's fund-raising efforts to the same cause.
Max Keen, a town council colleague of Mr Baillie and band member, said: "During the night, people came up to the stage giving money to sponsor a song.
"Micky Hurst, a long time friend of the band, got the audience to line the stage with pound coins - when enough was raised he pledged to 'play' with the band. This stunt alone raised £94."
Mr Keen also thanked compere Roger Tomkins, while vital contributions came from volunteers and "unsung heroes" behind the scenes. The success means it could become an annual event.
