THE Tories and ex-Independents say that they will lead a tax rise revolt - yet the 58 per cent tax rise for the Stratford District Council was proposed by the Conservatives and supported by the three Independent councillors - but not supported by the Liberal Democrats.
The County Council tax rise of eight percent was supported by the Conservatives and Labour - but not by the Liberal Democrats who proposed a lower figure.
In the last three years of a Liberal Democrat controlled District Council the council tax did not rise for three years. In three years of conservative rule the tax has risen each year.
The explanation given by the Conservatives is laughable. Only one-eighth of the rise is due to loss of government grant - the rest is internal to the District Council.
PAM PRICE, District Councillor, (Alcester), Ely Street, Stratford.
