CONGRATULATIONS to Irene and Ray Barker of Kings End Road, Powick on celebrating their diamond wedding last weekend in Swindon with their family and friends. They met at a dance while Ray was with the RAF in Hereford and Irene was in the WAAF. Ray worked as a journalist with the Express in both Manchester and Fleet Street, on the Manchester Evening Chronicle and the Birmingham Post. He and his wife retired to Powick ten years ago and more recently edited the Parish Magazine.
Congratulations to Jasmine Page, aged 12 years, of Colletts Green on gaining grade two in the Gymnastics National Development Grades competition recently held in Birmingham Sports Centre. She is a member of the Malvern Hills Gymnastics Club and a past pupil Powick Primary School.
Congratulations to Thomas Nichol of Colletts Green who took part in a music festival held in Dudley recently. He gained first place in duet for piano and won a cup with his fellow pianist. Thomas is a past pupil of Callow End Primary School and now attends Dyson Perrins High School in Malvern. He also helps out with playing the organ at St James' Church, Callow End.
This Sunday's Mothering Sunday service is at St Peter's Church, Powick at 11am when the congregation and members of Junior Church at Callow End will be joining and taking part in the service.
