The public toilets at the Dingle 'bus terminus' are likely to be closed and demolished within the next few months. This follows the recent decision by Malvern Hills District Council, as a cost-saving measure, to no longer to maintain the toilets. The facility was first offered to the Hills Conservators, who own the land. However, they declined to take on the management and maintenance as they already face major expenditure on the toilets at British Camp to bring them up to the standards of disabled access required by the new legislation.
West Malvern Parish Council was then offered the opportunity to take on ownership, management at maintenance of the Dingle toilets. After a meeting between parish councillors and MHDC officers, however, the parish council at its March meeting unanimously declined the offer. Councillors agreed that the facility mainly benefits visitors and tourists, and that the substantial costs of cleaning, maintenance, and renovation would place an unreasonable burden on the Council Tax payers of West Malvern. It was decided to press the district council to reconsider its decision and to continue to maintain the toilets under the auspices of its tourism and leisure committee.
The stretch of West Malvern Road between the Westminster Bank/Croft Bank junction and the Ebrington Road junction is to be closed to through traffic for complete resurfacing for approximately a week starting on Monday, April 7. There will be the usual exemptions to the traffic order to allow access to frontages. Most residents are likely to put up willingly with any inconvenience given the prospect of a new surface, as this stretch of road has deteriorated badly in the past year or two, and occasional patching and filling of potholes has had little effect. A reminder to any resident intending to stand for election to the parish council on May 1 that nominations will close on Tuesday. Completed nomination forms must be submitted to the returning officer at the Council House in Avenue Road by noon that day.
