Coun Alec Wall (Your Letters, March 21) appears to be suffering from a bad case of selective memory.
If the Liberal Democrats in 1997-98 were so reckless and irresponsible, as he implies in his letter, how come the then Tory/Rural group supported the budgets that brought about this supposed £1 million revenue deficit?
The fact of the matter is that with revenue balances to the tune of £3.1 million the then financial position was as viable as it was prudent. The electorate of Malvern will also note that he has failed to explain why this year's budget is actually in deficit to the tune of £585,000.
His tacit admission by omission that the current administration has wasted £750,000 in consultants fees and redundancy payments in the name of "best value" speaks volumes.
This self-indulgent bout of internal navel gazing has both degraded service delivery and wrecked the morale of what was once a highly motivated workforce that was proud to serve our community, some record.
