CAMPAIGNERS will be highlighting what they say is cruelty to mother pigs tomorrow (Saturday) in Great Malvern.
As part of a national protest co-ordinated by vegetarian group Viva! the campaign is dubbed Unhappy Mother's Day. Forty two demonstrations are set to take place up and down the country.
Viva! plan to set up a stall by the Elgar statue and protest outside various butchers, handing out leaflets about the 'farrowing crate' in attempt to have it banned. The farrowing crate is a metal frame in which pregnant pigs are confined prior to and after giving birth.
Local campaigner Helen Turner said: "We need to raise awareness to this hideous device".
The protest will be bet-ween 10am and 2pm.
