THE English Symphony Orchestra will be performing Bach's magnificent St Matthew Passion at Tewkesbury Abbey for Easter.
The St Matthew Passion was composed for use at the Thomaskirche on Good Friday in 1729. Bach used the entire Passion story as it appears in the Gospel of Matthew in Martin Luther's German translation of the Bible.
Gavin Carr takes the role of Christus and Harry Nicol the Evangelist. The orchestra is joined by the St Michael's Singers from Coventry Cathedral.
The concert is on Saturday, April 12, at 6.30pm, and tickets (£5 to £18) are available from the box office on 01684 560696.
