TV STAR Matthew Kelly makes his Malvern Theatres debut next week, when he stars in a new production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
Putting the troubles of his immediate past well behind him, Kelly has launched himself with gusto into a touring version of the American classic, staged Birmingham Repertory Theatre in association with the Touring Consortium.
He has already received rave reviews, no less an authoritative organ than The Stage enthusing: "Matthew Kelly gives an astonishing performance".
In this epic tale of survival, hope and friendship, Kelly and George Costigan take the roles of the two lead characters Lennie and George.
Against the backdrop of America's Great Depression, George and Lennie are determined to buy a small farm of their own after years of scraping a living as itinerant farm workers.
The two friends soon experience the flip side of the American Dream and their friendship is tested to the absolute limits.
Of Mice and Men is one of the classic stories of the 20th Century, written and adapted for the stage by Steinbeck, one of America's greatest novelists.
1930s California is recreated on stage complete with riverside, water tower and haystacks, in a stunning and evocative set, together with music by former Albion Band member John Tams.
Jonathan Church's powerful and highly charged production takes audiences on a roller-coaster ride of human emotion.
Although better known as a TV presenter, Kelly's theatre credits are numerous, including the RNT touring production of The Pied Piper and Funny Peculiar in the West End.
He is joined by George Costigan, whose theatre credits are vast, including roles for the RNT and Birmingham Rep along with many TV parts, recently as Brian in BBC 1's Linda Green.
He also starred in the hit film The Full Monty.
Of Mice and Men plays Malvern Festival Theatre from Monday, March 31 to Saturday, April 1. Tickets range from £10-£18 (students £8). Book on 01684 892277.
