TWO railway bridges in Malvern were replaced in just 30 hours this week, fifty years ago.
Work on the bridges, spanning Thirlstane Road and Woodshears Road, started at midnight on Saturday and finished at 6am on Monday.
The project was carried out by engineers from British Rail and from Chepstow-based Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering. Each bridge featured pre-stressed concrete decking supported by six girders, the largest of which weighed six tons.
Bus services were laid on between the stations at Malvern Link and Malvern Wells to replace train services that had to be cancelled.
