A LIFE on the tiles could be a prosperous future for Worcester youngsters.
Up to 1,000 job places need to be filled in the West Midlands' roof sheeting and cladding industry during the next three years, according to the National Construction College Midlands.
The college, based in King's Norton, Birmingham, wants more school leavers, aged between 16 to 21, to get up on the roof by joining it's specialist sheeting and cladding NVQ Level 2 course in September.
"On completion of the course, more than 98 per cent of our apprentices go straight into careers with good pay," said Simon O'Donnell, new entrant training officer for the college.
"In some cases they also travel extensively to world-wide locations where their employers are active."
The course combines vocational training and hands-on experience to help youngsters find a foothold in the industry, while paid accommodation is provided for students from outside the Birmingham area.
Roof sheeting and cladding is used on large buildings, such as factories, warehouses and out-of-town shopping centres.
