WORCESTER Wolves are through to the quarter-finals of the National Basketball Trophy - despite not playing at the weekend.
Their away game against the Plymouth Raiders yesterday was postponed after Wolves took advice not to travel to Devon for the game because of adverse weather conditions.
However, Plymouth's 83-75 away win at Oxford Devils on Saturday was enough for both Plymouth and Wolves to go through to the quarter-finals as the top two in their group.
Wolves' game at Plymouth was due to decide the final placings in the group, with both sides having won four and lost one of their five group matches and the group winners being guaranteed a home tie.
The reward for the winners looks like a home tie against Sutton who were runners-up in group D, while the losers will travel to the mighty Worthing Bears who led group D.
But with the south-west of the country particularly badly affected by the strong winds that ravaged the country, the Wolves followed Roadwatch and police advice and did not travel south for the game.
The club informed Plymouth at 9am yesterday morning of the scheduled game.
Plymouth wanted to claim the points, but Wolves must now wait for advice from the English Basketball Association as to how the league positions will be resolved.
The most likely result will be to reschedule the game, but this could prove to be tricky as the quarter-finals are due to be played within the next two weeks.
Commenting on reaching the QuarterFinals of the National Trophy for the first time, Wolves' Director of Operations Mick Donovan said: "In our short history, this has got to be one of our finest achievements.
"Whatever the outcome of the enquiry we look forward to the next stage."
Wolves Player-coach Rick Solvason and his men begin their National League Division One this coming weekend when they face a tough trip to Westminster on Saturday.
Their opening home match will be against Derbyshire at University College Worcester on Saturday, November 9.
They travel to face Black Country on Sunday, November 17 before two successive home games against North London on Saturday, November 23 and Bath on Saturday, November 30.
