I WRITE on behalf of the committee of Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section (WODYS) to express our concern that the Swan Theatre may be closing.
We believe that it an integral part of the provision of arts and culture for the citizens of Worcester and the surrounding area. Its closure will result in the loss of a vital community resource.
WODYS caters for young people age eight to 18 years and aims to give them an experience of theatre. Members develop personal confidence, a sense of team responsibility, acting and singing skills. A number of our ex-members have gone on to obtain places at drama schools.
Each year, we perform at the Swan Theatre for a week so that the young people can display their talents to the community. This year, our production of Annie was sold out.
We urge the council and the Swan Theatre Board to resolve the crisis so that we can continue to plan our 2003 production of Annie Get Your Gun.
DAVID SKELTON, Business Manager, WODYS, Worcester.
