The ROMANS came to town to give schoolchildren an insight into life during the Empire.
The Legion XIIII Geminae, which takes part in battle re-enactments, visited pupils from the Alice Ottley Junior School and Sunnyside Prep School for a Roman Day.
The pupils attended a Roman school, tried out some Roman army manoeuvres, witnessed a Roman marriage and dressed in Roman garb.
Cathy Burbidge, a Year 3 form teacher at Alice Ottley, arranged the visit.
"The children found it fascinating and thoroughly enjoyed being Romans for the day," she said.
