1802: Late on Wednesday night, the chaise (open carriage) driver belonging to one of the inns of this city, taking his horses as usual to wash them in the River Severn, is supposed to have fallen into the water and perished. His horses were afterwards found some distance from the spot, and the one he rode had the saddle turned under its belly. The body has not yet been taken up.
FOUR troops of the Queen's Light Dragoons arrived here on Saturday from Salisbury and have since continued their march to Liverpool to embark for Ireland.

1902: "A Family Orgy" - Henry Tudge (22) labourer of Wilson's Lodging House, Dolday, who wore the South African war ribbon, was charged at the Worcester Police Court with being drunk and disorderly at All Hallows and further with refusing to quit the Malt Shovel Inn. Florence Tudge, wife of the defendant, was also charged with being drunk and disorderly at All Hallows and further with unlawful damage by breaking two panes of glass with her fist at the Malt Shovel Inn. Both pleaded guilty and were fined five shillings each, plus damages. Arthur Everton, licensee of the Malt Shovel, was summonsed for serving the Tudges while they were intoxicated and for allowing drunkenness on his premises. He was fined £2 with 29s.6d costs.
The Board of Guardians at Upton-on-Severn report that the three imbeciles at their Workhouse appear perfectly happy and contented.

1952: Outstanding war research work at TRE Malvern by Dr F.E Jones of Tarradale, Colwall has led the Ministry of Supply to appoint him as its Deputy Chief Scientific Officer in the salary range up to £2,100 a year. He has been with the Malvern establishment since 1940 and was the man behind the blind bombing system which played a vital part in the bomber offensive and in the pre-D-Day tactical bombing. He has been concerned in recent years with research on cosmic and other rays.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Duckworth of New Bank Street, Worcester, have celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary. They were Mayor and Mayoress of Worcester in 1935. Mr Duckworth came to Worcester as Chief City Librarian and was later, for many years, Secretary for Higher Education in the city. He was a city councillor for a long period.
Fifteen members of the cast of The Archers rehearsed an episode of their BBC radio serial in front of 1,000 people who enjoyed the annual flower show and garden party in the grounds of the BBC transmitter at Wychbold.
