1803: William Hough of the parish of Oddingley has lately eloped from the parish of Defford and left his wife chargeable to that parish. Whoever will apprehend the said William Hough and bring him to the parish officers of Defford shall receive a One Guinea Reward. Hough is 18 years of age, slightly round shouldered and was wearing badly stitched shoes which appeared to be too small for him."
Ladies French School - Mr Quesnel begs leave to acquaint parents who choose to have their children taught French that he will open on Monday next, at his own house on the North Parade, Worcester, a School for Six Young Ladies to be instructed in this polite and useful language. School hours will be from three to five in the afternoons on Mondays and Wednesdays. Terms - One guinea per quarter.
The 53rd Regiment of Foot, just returned from the West Indies, arrived in this city yesterday, and this morning continued their march for Shrewsbury.
1903: An action of considerable local interest will come up for hearing in London next week. The legal dispute is between Earl Beauchamp of Madresfield Court and the Trustees of the late Edward Archer and is over the right to use the Sandys Spring at Malvern Link. Many of the witnesses are too old and infirm to make the journey to London, and a special Commission for their examination was held on Tuesday at the Foley Arms Hotel, Malvern.
Alfred Freeman of Pump Street was summonsed at the City Police Court by C.A.V. Antonio, fried fish shop keeper of Pump Street for damaging, to the extent of two shillings, a trestle table, six stone weight of fish and 20 pairs of kippers. As a result of his bad language and disorderly behaviour, Freeman had been ordered out of the shop by Mr Antonio but returned the next evening and threw over the table with all the fish on it. Freeman was fined 15s. with 19s.6d costs but, in default, was sent to prison for 14 days.
1953: Westwood House near Droitwich, the historic 15th Century Elizabethan mansion, formerly occupied by the late Lord Doverdale, has been officially listed and protected by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government as a building of special architectural and historic interest.
