Labour leader Councillor Walter Stranz this week described the demolition of 90 houses in Other Road as "one of the saddest things to happen" in Redditch history.

And he told councillors: "The inhumanity of this scheme leaves me completely shattered.

"I would never have believed it possible if I had not seen it happen.

"We have seen other people lose their homes with the building of the new town and I would have thought we would have learnt from our mistakes."

Councillor Stranz was speaking to a full meeting of Redditch Council who on Monday decided by 16 votes to seven not to discuss the scheme any more.

They gave the go-ahead for the demolition of the east side of Other Road to make way for a new ring road.
