1803: The King (George III) sprained his leg on Tuesday while mounting his horse which prevented His Majesty from riding on Wednesday and Thursday, but we are happy to state that he is now perfectly recovered from the effects of the accident.

1903: William Smith (17), errand boy of St Andrew's Square, Worcester, was fined five shillings at the City Police Court for disorderly behaviour by playing football in High Street on a Sunday.
One day last week, a shooting party near Great Malvern killed nine snipe and a curlew. In Britain, the summer haunts of the curlew are heathy, boggy moors, but in autumn and winter it goes to the seaside. In the previous week, the same shooting party killed three woodcock at Broadheath within four miles of Worcester Cross.
The Worcester Coroner, Mr W.B Hulme, has opened an inquest on the body of a newly-born female infant found in an outhouse at the back of High Street. The hearing was told that a 19-year-old shop assistant was believed to be the mother but she strongly denied having given birth to a baby. A doctor, who examined her, was strongly of the opinion she had been delivered of a child. She is now in the Worcester Workhouse.
1953: The Bishop of Worcester, Dr Wilson Cash, is appealing for funds towards the national campaign to help 12 million displaced persons, "homeless and largely helpless". Almost 10 million of them are refugees in West Germany while in the Trans-Jordan and Near Eastern countries, there are 850,000 people still living in tents, underground holes and temporary buildings.
