SEVENTY years ago, a 10-year-old boy began part- time work at P Spencer & Sons Ltd, Oswald Street, Redditch, with the other half of his time, until he reached the age of 13, spent at the Wesleyan School just across the road.

Now 81 years of age, Mr Frank Hanson, of St George's Road, Redditch, completed 70 years with that firm in September and is still doing a full day's work because he says 'work is my hobby'.

This length of service with one firm may be a record but Mr Hanson has another event to celebrate on November 27 for he and Mrs Hanson, formerly Miss Laura Smith, both natives of Redditch, will celebrate their diamond wedding.

Mrs Hanson is the sister of Mr Fred Smith, of South Street, Redditch, who has just completed 50 years' service with the same firm.
