A NEW season a new name as Malvern's second string 'Dogs' side visited Gloucester for a tough fixture.
OLD RICHIANS 2nd XV 43pts, MALVERN 2nd XV 43pts
It turned out to be a spectacle of attacking rugby as a total of 14 tries were scored.
From the kick off an under strength Malvern side found themselves under pressure as Richians went over for the first try after a mix up in the backs. Things got worse as a second try soon followed.
The 'Dogs' soon found their feet and a pass straight from the base of the scrum from Green, saw outside centre Dave Beech go 60 yards round the defence to score under the posts.
He soon followed up with a second as Malvern pushed in front at half time with a classic forward drive try from Jon Owen.
The second half was a war of attrition as both sides slugged it out and the ball moved from side to side.
Richians pulled the score back then went in front only for tries from Green and Thomas, to bring things level.
The tension built as Beech completed his hat-trick with another long range run in for the try, but with time running short Malvern's inexperience showed as two late Richians tries put them seven points clear with only minutes of the game left.
However, superb work from the backs, and a quick ruck saw Williams feed Thomas for a try converted coolly by Tom Smith and the match was drawn.
