With Weston and Merthyr Tydfil games still to come
BROMSGROVE Rovers joint manager Gary Hackett has described last Saturday's 4-2 home defeat at the hands of rivals Gloucester City as the worst result this season.
Rovers were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes through Steve Frost and Paul Danks but had been pegged back to 2-2 by the interval and fell away to concede two further goals in the second half.
Hackett said: "I told the players at half time I had never seen a game that was over after 15 minutes but we switched off.
"For the first time this season I didn't think we deserved to win and it was the worst performance of the season."
Rovers, now top of the Dr Martens Western on goal difference, must now pick themselves up ahead of two crucial games, first against Weston Super Mare at the Victoria Ground this Saturday and then a trip to joint leaders Merthyr Tydfil seven days later.
"They are two massive games," Hackett said. "It would have been nice to go into this game with Weston with a win under our belts."
But Hackett has no doubt himself and Jon Ford have the players for the job.
He added: "We believe we have got a squad strong enough to stay up there. It's up to those in the team to prove they show be staying there.
"It is a blip but we have to make sure it doesn't become more than that. Whatever happens this month we will still be up there."
Rovers have continued their raid on former Evesham United players by capturing Steve Lutz.
Lutz joined from Common Road at the end of last week and went straight into the squad.
