MALVERN Town have signed former Football League player Darren Bullock to boost their West Midlands League Premier Division championship hopes.
Worcester-based Bullock, aged 34, could make his debut tomorrow (Saturday) at Shawbury United but Town general manager Richard Anson said if not, he will play against Ledbury Town at Langland Stadium on Tuesday night.
Bullock started his career at Malvern Town some 15 seasons back and then moved on to Nuneaton Borough for £1,000 before a move into the Football League limelight saw him playing at Swindon, Huddersfield, Rushden & Diamonds finishing his career with third division Bury.
Bullock played for Dr Martens' sides Worcester City last season and at the start of this season signed for Evesham United, where he was made team captain, but departed from both clubs following poor disciplinary records.
Recently Bullock turned out for West Midlands Premier Division outfit Bromyard Town for one game and Town have had to put in seven days notice of approach for the player, which could compromise his debut at Shawbury.
Anson said: "Obviously we know all about Darren's recent problems but he is keen to play for us and his football ability will be a massive asset at this level.
"We will have to see how it goes over the next few games but Darren has expressed a wish to become involved with coaching, especially young players, and we would be happy to help him with that."
Fifth-placed Malvern Town visit fourth-placed Shawbury United in the West Midlands Premier Division tomorrow (Saturday), kick-off 2.45pm and then on Tuesday (January 21) entertain sixth-placed Ledbury Town at Langland Stadium (7.45pm).
Anson said: "These are two big games and we feel we need four points to maintain our challenge."
For Shawbury Town boss Neil Hunt will select from: Watson, Williams, Cannon, Clayton, Walker, Leighton, Palmer, Johnson, Halion, Rose, Owen, Cox, Hooper, Roberts, Willetts, Goodman and Bullock.
Town have organised a supporters' coach to travel to Shawbury which will leave the Langland Stadium at 11.30am, cost £3.
