SPA residents are being urged to nominate their favourite historic town buildings to help raise the profile of Droitwich.

The town council is looking for properties of cultural or architectural interest to take part in a Heritage Open Day later this year.

Both historic and contemporary buildings can be nominated including private homes, offices, castles factories and follies.

However, they must not be normally open to the public, or usually charge for admission. Buildings, usually free of charge would have to stage a special event.

Organisers must open the properties to the public on either September 12, 13, 14 or 15 and there will be no admission charge.

"Properties such as Hanbury Hall could be nominated but they would probably have to put on a special event," said council leader Cllr Pam Davey (Con-Droit.South) at a recent meeting.

Organisers are strongly encouraged to arrange guided tours of the properties as the rules stipulate that just opening the doors to the public is not quite enough.

Ideas for town walks or lectures will also by welcomed by the town council.

Heritage Open Days is a scheme established by the Civic Trust in 1994 to promote interest in local and national heritage.

The programme draws interest from across the country and via the website. Any ideas of appropriate buildings, walks or organisations that could arrange lectures would be welcome. People interested in participating should be registered with the town council by May 1.
