Marconi 6, Droitwich 5
Midlands Hockey Division
Four West (South)
DROITWICH'S promotion hopes were all but shattered on Saturday by this narrow reversal at Coventry.
Droitwich never really got out of first gear, failing to produce any flowing rugby and, more importantly, failing to adapt to the referee's interpretation of the laws.
Marconi took the lead late in the first half through a penalty, and doubled their advantage shortly into the second period.
Droitwich constantly failed to get any rhythm into their game. Eventually a good move gave Jamie Faulkener just enough room to score in the corner. Matt Blackmore was unsuccessful with the difficult conversion.
This is a major setback to Droitwich's promotion hopes.
But all is not lost as a comprehensive win over Old Yardlians in a fortnight's time may yet provide Droitwich a vital life- line.
