Burlish 8, Evesham Utd Ladies 2
DESPITE an encouraging start against the league leaders, Evesham's defensive frailties were again their downfall as they crashed to a heavy defeat in Sunday's Wyvern Associates League Cup.
United took the game to their hosts from the start and created a number of chances before taking the lead after 15 minutes.
Charlotte Benson-Wilson received the ball and ran at the Burlish defence before striking a superb shot from the edge of the penalty area into the top of the net.
At this stage, with Benson-Wilson impressive in midfield and Sam Jones solid at the back, Evesham were on top. Unfortunately, Burlish hit a purple patch and scored four times in a ten-minute period to effectively kill off the tie.
Evesham didn't give up and scored a second goal two minutes before the break when Niki Savidge crossed and top scorer Nicky Bond fired a first time shot over the head of the goalkeeper.
Four second half goals for the hosts, though, gave the final result a rather flattering look after all the early United promise.
The Common Road girls are again on League Cup duty on Sunday when they entertain Redd-itch United.
