A YOUNG Evesham United team launched the new Kidderminster Women's County League against Burlish Olympic before a good sized crowd at Common Road on Sunday.
A penalty for handball inside the first five minutes and an unfortunate own goal sandwiched two further strikes from Burlish as Evesham trailed 4-1 at half-time.
Against an older and more experienced side it looked as though the hosts would suffer a heavy defeat but, after conceding a fifth goal early in the second half, they started to get their game together and scored three quick goals to bring themselves right back into the match.
With both sides having chances for further goals it was Burlish who scored twice more to put the game out of reach for the Evesham girls although they did score a fifth in the final minute.
This was an encouraging start for the home side and, given some excellent individual performances, the future looks bright.
Finding the net for United were Tori Southern, Sarah McCammon, Charlotte Benson-Wilson, Niki Savidge and Sarah Smith.
