THE strains of Moon River accompanied the coffin of Evening News cartoonist Horace Winwood, as friends and family gathered to say their farewells.
The 95-year-old died suddenly at his home last week.
His funeral took place at Worcester Crematorium yesterday where mourners welcomed in the coffin to Elgar's Nimrod.
Mr Winwood had followed his father into the sign-writing trade after leaving school but had always wanted to be a cartoonist.
His big break came after the Second World War when he was invited to produce a weekly series of cartoon sketches for the Evening News' Saturday sports section.
His cartoons were his passion and he carried on drawing well into his 90s.
Among the select group of mourners were his son Lee and his family, as well as Evening News sports editor Paul Ricketts, deputy sports editor Tony Moore and Tony Deakin and Roger Harris, both from Worcester City FC.
