WORCESTER St John's Cycling Club got their evening time trial series under way with a five-mile event in Broadheath.
Tim Wood (Stourbridge CC) set a course record with 11 minutes 3 seconds. A distant second was Gavin Poupart (Parrot Print) with 11.47, just beating Adrian Bird (Arctic 2000) in 11.49.
Fastest veteran was Mike Potter (12.51) and fastest lady was Helen Wooton (15.40).
Other times: Steve Dring 12.12, Kevin Sargent 12.51, Pete Jansen 13.25, Steve Potter 13.57, Les Bailey 14.33, Martin Staines 14.48, Gail Flanagan 15.50.
Rushwick's Marcus Walker riding for Bush Healthcare took sixth place in the opening race of the Veteran's National Road Race Series near Alcester.
Walker was one of a group of six riders who rode clear of the bunch late in the 60-mile race, and although the break fragmented, he held off the fast closing bunch to finish a minute down on the winner.
