A DESIGNATED nature reserve is to be established in a Redditch beauty spot.
Proctor's Barn Meadows, in the grounds of Arrow Valley Park, have more than 110 species of wildflower and grasses.
Redditch Council countryside officers want the spot to become a Local Nature Reserve so it can be protected, preserved and managed.
The designation would recognise the educational importance of the meadows, which would also be given greater status.
It is also hoped funding from English Nature could be obtained if it were to become a nature reserve.
The move is a result of The Redditch biodiversity action plan which was launched in February 2001 and highlighted the need for more nature reserves in the town.
The council's executive committee will decide tonight if the meadows should become a nature reserve.
