NORTHFIELD Starlets Veterans started their annual campaign on Tuesday at Moorlands Farm and it was Dave Bennett (Stourbridge) that showed the way by waggler fishing corn to pull out 20 Carp from Meadow pool peg 42 for a 70-5-0 catch. Stan James (Bewdley) was second with 52-8-0 with Ken Giles (Alvechurch) third, taking 42-10-0.
On Wednesday, the Astwood Fisheries Smokey Joes pool open went to Pete Bailey (Droitwich Angling Centre) who pole fished casters at peg 42 to take a mixed 22-9-8 catch. Second was Rob Francis (Droitwich Angling Centre) with 18-6-0; third, John Halfpenny (Astwood), 17-3-0.
At Moorlands Farm the Meadow pool open went to Kevin Driver (MN Autos). He pole fished cat meat at peg 35 for 89-13-0 of Carp. Bob Jones (Moorlands) was a close second with 87-4-0 with third going to Nigel Davis' (Worcester PO) 59-1-0.
Davis went on to win the Moorlands Farm Thursday costcutter open and again it was cat meat that did the trick. Pole fishing at Meadow pool peg 23, he put 91-13-0 on the scales. Second was Colin Pace (Bilston) with 80-4-0 and third Lee Richards (Fosters), taking 79-0-0.
The Midland Bears Disabled AA were on Woodlands View's High pool and Charford matchman Al Lees continued his good form by taking a winning catch of 35-4-0 by pole fishing corn at peg nine. Vic Cutts took 29-0-6 for second while third was Roy Freeth's 27-0-8.
Woodlands Views' Deans pool was the setting for the KH Veterans event. Bill Drew (Bewdley) came out winner by pole fishing corn at peg 33 for 53-8-0. Stan James (Bewdley) had to settle for second place again with 44-12-0 with third going to John Osman (Northfield) with 32-5-0.
On Friday, the West Midlands Police AC held its Spring Cup contest at Tunnel Barn Farm Top pool. In first place was Gary Plant (Walsall) who arrested 19-12-0 of Carp by pole fishing Ringer pellets to the island from peg one. Second, Clive Nixon (Rugely), had 16-8-0 while Chris Taylor (Pershore) was in third place with 15-4-0.
At Woodlands View, the Friday afternoon open was held on Deans pool where Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) took a top score of 112-0-0 by pole fishing corn and casters at peg 61. Runner-up Simon Williams (Woodlands) had 101-11-0 with third placed Pete Hughes (Worcester) taking 70-4-0.
Saturday was the first round of the Preston Inovations Spring league at Woodlands View with some cracking weights recorded by the 17 teams of four. Taking the top individual honours was Dean Cherrington (Sensas Midland Match) with 128-10-0 of Carp taken by pole fishing corn and meat up in the water from Deans pool peg 36. Rob Gandley (Map Starlets) followed with 124-7-0 and third going to Rich Hoskins (DGL) with 116-9-0. DGL were the top team with 17 points; Trentmen Red 19; Sensas Midland Match 20.
Moorlands Farm's two-day spring festival saw 50 of the region's top flight matchmen compete over three matches.
First was the four-hour morning event, which saw Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) edge a close verdict by pole fishing corn and pellets at Meadow pool peg 17 for 73-2-0. Second, Chris Hill (Fosters MG), 72-8-0; third, Jason Neath (Shakespeare), 67-4-0. The four-hour afternoon match went to Chris Hill who put 117-2-0 on the scales from Meadow peg 34. Stuart Pulsar (Shakespeare) was second with 94-12-0 and Stuart Gray (Hallcorft) was third with 83-9-0.
Sunday's five-hour final leg was won by Ian Whitehouse (Strike Mosella) with a 102-0-0 catch from Bank pool peg four. Paul Williams (Woodlands) took 77-12-0 for second while third was Lee Richards' (Fosters MG) 75-3-0.
Chris Hill is the festival champion with a perfect three points section tally and he collected £1,200 in the process. Second, on a weight count and four points, was Ian Whitehouse collecting £900; third, Colin Pace (Bilston) with four points and £500.
The Birmingham Civil Service held its second and final leg of its President's Cup on the Silver Fish pool at Elmdon. First place went to Gary Booth (Catshill) who pole fished chopped worms at peg eight for a 9-3-8 mixed catch. At next door peg nine club secretary John Powell (Olton) had 7-3-8 with Chris Hughes (Sheldon) taking 6-8-0 for third.
Hughes also landed the cup with five points. Gary Booth together with Paul Woods were joint second with eight points.
Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) was a winner again at the Woodlands View open by pole fishing corn and meat at High Pool peg 32 for 69-10-0. Second, Steve Pickup (Fishermans Friend), took 66-7-0; third, Sean McCarthy (Pill Angling), 64-2-0.
The Astwood Fisheries Bluebell pool open was topped by Stuart Aston (Swan AC) with a pole and meat catch of 44-11-0 from peg 19. Second, Tom Hamilton (Hingleys Tackle), with 35-7-0 and third, Brian Williams (Astwood), with 30-6-0.
