DEAR EDITOR -- I have just found out there was a public meeting in Droitwich to nominate Independent candidates for May's council elections.
None were chosen because not enough people turned up. Both local weekly newspapers reported on the meeting after the event, without reporters even attending. Having now spoken to one of the organisers, I found out that both newspapers knew all about the meeting thanks to a fully detailed press release two whole weeks before. Yet both refused to publish details, no matter how briefly.
It does seem to me that local press has deliberately deprived Droitwich readers of important information. I do suspect a cynical move to protect the political parties from embarrassment. Both editors and reporters should be thoroughly ashamed. Voters have been denied a real choice!
