A 6.3 ACRE piece of land adjoining Denmark House in Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove, was sold by auction for the astonishing sum of £55,000 or around £8,600 per acre. It had outline planning permission for four detached houses.
HAL Miller, Bromsgrove's Tory MP, had been elected chairman of the all-party Motor Industry Group - a new organisation set up by both Houses of Parliament to act as a two-way channel of communication between the industry and government.
SUBSTANTIAL improvements costing about £65,000 were set to be made to the 22-year-old swimming pool at North Bromsgrove High School, which was said to be deteriorating. It had recently been described by the head, Mr Bloomfiled, as an "asset worth £120,000."
TWO promising Bromsgrove Rovers players, Tommy Smith and Brian McGary, had been snapped up by Harry Haslam, manager of Second Division club Sheffield United. The league club was also said to be interested in signing a further seven Rovers players.
WARING gangs of youths in Rubery continued to bring misery for scores of residents. Many claimed there was now no effective system of bringing the youths into line or any effective form of punishment since approved schools had been abolished. MPs in the area were being urged to lobby the government on the problems.
