THE hardwork and dedication of staff and students at a Rubery high school is at the heart of its top performance in the latest league tables.

Staff at Waseley Hills High are celebrating after being placed 12th in the county, in the Government's A-Level performance league tables, which were published last Thursday.

The tables are based on the total average number of points achieved by students at A-level with an A grade worth 120, a B worth 100, down to an E worth 40 points. Most students sit three or four exams.

Out of the 40 students who took the exams at the School Road school, the average points achieved were 313.

Headteacher David Thurbon said: "I am delighted with the results and feel it reflects the hard work of students, staff and support of parents."

The school has recently spent £2.5 million on a brand new sixth form centre in a bid to give students better educational and social facilities.

Of the 40 Worcestershire county high schools and further education colleges featured in the tables, Bromsgrove School was placed second, just below The Alice Ottley School in Worcester.

Out of the 121 pupils who took their A-levels last June at the Worcester Road school, the average point score was a whopping 370.6.

South Bromsgrove High School also put in an impressive performance, coming in at 15th, just below Waseley Hills. The school entered 106 students last June, who collected an average of 286.9 points.

However, North Bromsgrove High School, which recently went into special measures, could only manage 31st place with pupils achieving an average of just 200 points.

NEW College also featured at the bottom end at the table at 38th out of 40. Teenagers collected an average of 115.8 points.
